WHAT ARE SOME PREVALENT ISSUES IN THE SOUTH ASIAN COMMUNITY?
Possible risk factors for depression amongst South Asian adults in the U.S. include, but are not limited to: domestic abuse, neglect, intergenerational conflict, stress, associated with migration and social isolation. For South Asian youth who suffer from depression, some common prevalent issues are: interpersonal problems with their family, relationship violence, cultural conflicts, abuse, general role expectations etc.

WHAT'S THE ROOT OF THE ISSUE?
Powerful personal, familial, public, and cultural stigma regarding mental health which leads to lack of healthy, open dialogue, lack of awareness on mental health, and low rates of utilization of mental health care.

WHAT IS OUR MISSION AT MANNMUKTI AT UCLA?
MannMukti at UCLA aims to work towards destigmatization, awareness and education, advocacy, community-building, promoting mindfulness and self-care. We want to build a safe space for open dialogue and discussion around mental health.
